While on Your Journey to Become
Who You are Meant to Be....
Living in a very small home has required that I come to terms with my dust elephants (aka dust bunnies). We rent the cutest small house that unfortunately does not have the proper air exchange unit. I never knew how important an air system was until I started to battle the dirt and four years later, I have learned to live with it, mostly.
Standing on my couch in deep clean mode, duster in hand I brushed across the top of my window frame, and a new elephant herd was unleashed. I laugh now, but when we first moved into this space, I would get really upset. I had equated a clean home, with my self-worth. Making the visible dust growing hour by hour a regular aggravation. My inner mean girl was always screaming reminding me of my incompetence.
I must admit, I like cleaning, actually not the act of cleaning but the renewal of an area. I had the house to myself for a few days, it happens once a year and I treasure being on my own schedule. I had special plans which included mostly sitting outside in my beautiful backyard with my red umbrella, books, and zero gravity chair. The universe had a different idea— It has rained now for three straight days and my yard is waterlogged and its cold.
I spent the first of these days just chilling, watching Netflix and napping. It was wonderful— I embraced my downtime. But two days in I could not take it any longer I was beginning to feel uncomfortable with what felt like unproductive time.
Often times life sends messages in a bottle. I sighted my glass shape bobbing up and down in the waves long before I ever had the opportunity to grab ahold. I would get a glimpse of it and then twist myself against the clear view and it would quickly disappear behind a wave- as if it was a ghost to my imagination.
I have spent years escaping the fact that I would have to read the message that would inform my journey eventually. I never waded out to take hold because I was certain that the message was going to ask me to give something up- something big.
I love my email box. I have cultivated an eclectic group of people sharing their ideas and passion straight into my home. This past week Danielle LaPorte offered a moving repost from someone she follows, Hiro Boga. Hiro eloquently describes in her writing how to connect with your business divas.
My colleague's impromptu office visits always start with the question— “Are you winning”? Appreciating the banter, I generally reply “of course— I am”. Yet, on this particular day, my answer was—“not even close”.
