While on Your Journey to Become
Who You are Meant to Be....
What if every day you lived your life asking yourself one question? Would doing this activity, such as reading this blog or perhaps saying yes to a friends request to meet for tea- feel good?
I don’t know about you, but when I ask this question and only say yes, when the answer is yes, my day is amazing. I ask my self often, if I understand this concept and use it from time to time, why do I shy away from this daily practice?
The term bliss point is used in both economics and in the food industry. In short, both use this idea to describe a point at which the customer is completely satisfied. I am sure you can relate when you place your favorite candy bar on your tongue and start to chew, the taste brings you a tiny moment of joy-right? But if the company reworked the recipe and added more salt or sugar, you might not like it and choose another product.
In fact, there are numerous teams of food development specialists that are concerned with your bliss point. How often are your concerned about yours? Myself, not often enough.
Yet, what if I decided to focus more intently on that point where I am satisfied and feeling good?
As I write this, I wonder if you are thinking, this is just another cleaver way to talk about being happy? And of course in some respects I am speaking about being happy- and I would enjoy it more often Yet, for some reason when I think about happiness, I feel guilty that I am not happy enough, which makes me sad.
Sometimes I feel like a dog chasing her tail, and the side of me that is a perfectionist, goes crazy as I have internalized what society believes happy is and unless I feel that very thing, I feel upset or judge myself for not being happy.
Which brings me to the question of-- what if I decide to focus on finding my bliss points rather than full blown “happiness”? I know how I measure my bliss point at work is different than by bliss point measurements in my marriage. My bliss point during a workout is different than my close friend that seems to enjoy running long distances at super speeds. Is her bliss better or worse than mine?
I suppose this really is all about breaking “happiness” down into smaller tasks. Focusing on feeling better at work, at home, in my family relationships. Rather than continuously striving for that gold star in each area.
I can enjoy the candy bar of my choice, without a pre-made recipe served up by society.
what are your bliss points- would enjoy you sharing your thoughts below. Or better yet explore the small ways you try feel more blissful.
